Is Therapy Covered by Insurance?

Therapy coverage depends on your insurance plan and the clinician you choose. Some services are covered by insurance, while others are offered on a private-pay or out-of-network basis. Coverage, copays, and reimbursement vary by plan; our team can help clarify your options before you begin care.

How Insurance Works at Hearth

Insurance participation at Hearth Counseling & Consulting varies by provider. Each clinician contracts with different insurance plans, so coverage depends on both your plan and the clinician you choose. We recommend reviewing individual clinician profiles to confirm in-network status before scheduling.

Certain therapy services are not covered by insurance, including relationship and couples therapy and EMDR intensives. Insurance coverage applies to North Carolina residents only. For clients who are not using insurance, private-pay and out-of-network options are available, and superbills may be provided when appropriate for potential reimbursement.

Using Insurance for Therapy at Hearth

Insurance eligibility at Hearth Counseling & Consulting depends on both the clinician you work with and your specific insurance plan. Insurance coverage is available to North Carolina residents only, and participation varies by provider. We encourage clients to review clinician profiles to confirm in-network status prior to scheduling.

  • In-network insurance means your clinician is contracted with your insurance plan, and sessions are billed directly to insurance based on your plan’s benefits, copays, and deductibles.

  • Out-of-network insurance means your clinician is not contracted with your plan. In these cases, sessions are private pay at the time of service, and you may be eligible for partial reimbursement by submitting a superbill to your insurance carrier.

In-Network Insurance Plans

Some clinicians at Hearth Counseling & Consulting are in-network with select insurance plans. In-network coverage allows sessions to be billed directly to insurance according to your plan’s benefits, copays, and deductibles. Insurance participation varies by provider, so please review individual clinician profiles to confirm coverage before scheduling.

Out-of-Network Insurance & Superbills

If your clinician is out-of-network with your insurance plan, sessions are paid privately at the time of service. Many clients choose this option and may be eligible for partial reimbursement from their insurance provider, depending on their out-of-network benefits.

At Hearth Counseling & Consulting, we can provide a superbill upon request. A superbill is a detailed receipt that you submit directly to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement amounts vary by plan, and we recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your specific out-of-network benefits.

Private Pay Therapy Options

Some services at Hearth Counseling & Consulting are offered exclusively as private pay and cannot be billed to insurance, including relationship therapy, family therapy, and EMDR intensives. These services are structured differently and often involve extended sessions or multiple participants, which fall outside typical insurance guidelines. We invite you to explore our service pages and team to learn more about private-pay options and find the care that best fits your needs.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, clients who are self-pay or not using insurance have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected cost of services. This estimate is provided before care begins and reflects anticipated fees based on the services discussed. Actual charges may vary depending on clinical needs, but we are committed to transparency and clear communication around costs.

Payment Methods & Billing

Payment is due at the time of service. Hearth Counseling & Consulting accepts major credit and debit cards, as well as HSA cards, through our secure client portal. Insurance claims are submitted based on your clinician’s participation status. Private-pay and out-of-network clients are responsible for full payment at the time of the session unless arrangements are made in advance. For insurance-based services, claims are processed according to your clinician’s network status
