Welcome to Hearth Counseling & Consulting

Thank you for being here. I’m Marina Cline, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals, women, and families through trauma, identity shifts, and major life transitions. My work is rooted in reproductive and maternal mental health, with a specialized focus on EMDR-intensive trauma treatment and perinatal care.

I am deeply passionate about working with women and mothers navigating pregnancy, postpartum, loss, birth trauma, and the often unspoken emotional weight that comes with these experiences. Many of the clients I work with are high-functioning, insightful, and exhausted from “holding it together” while carrying unresolved trauma beneath the surface.

Education & Licensure

Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College, New York

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHC-S) in North Carolina

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York

Certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) Postpartum Support International

EMDR Certified Therapist and Consultant-in-Training (CIT) EMDR International Association (EMDRIA)

Clinical Experience

I bring over 15 years of clinical experience across private practice, residential treatment, hospitals, inpatient settings, and higher education. This breadth of experience informs my ability to hold both complexity and nuance, particularly when working with trauma that intersects with medical systems, identity, culture, and power.

My Approach

My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and deeply respectful of each client’s lived experience. I work from a multicultural, anti-oppressive, and social justice lens, honoring how systems, identity, and history shape mental health.

Clinically, my work integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed therapy, and other evidence-based modalities to support both deep healing and practical change. I believe therapy can be serious without being rigid, and meaningful without being overwhelming. Humor, curiosity, and compassion are often part of the work.

Areas of Focus

A significant part of my clinical work centers on:

  • EMDR-Intensive Trauma Therapy – Short-term, focused trauma treatment designed to address complex or acute trauma efficiently and intentionally

  • Reproductive & Perinatal Mental Health – Infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, and identity transitions

  • Birth Trauma & Medical Trauma – Including emergency interventions, loss of agency, and invalidating care experiences

  • Adjustment to Motherhood & Parenthood – Identity shifts, role strain, and emotional overwhelm

  • Mood Disorders – Depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorders

  • Trauma & Attachment Wounds – Using EMDR and IFS-informed approaches

  • Immigrants and Refugees – Supporting healing around displacement, identity, grief, and belonging

I strive to offer a space where clients do not need to minimize their pain, explain their reactions, or justify their experiences, especially when those experiences have been dismissed or misunderstood elsewhere.

Therapeutic Modalities

My work is individualized and grounded in evidence-based approaches that support both depth and stability in the healing process. Depending on your needs and goals, therapy may incorporate:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)- to process trauma and distressing life experiences in a structured, research-supported way.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed therapy to help clients understand and work with different parts of themselves with compassion and clarity.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- to identify unhelpful thought patterns and develop more adaptive ways of coping.

Solution-Focused Therapy- to support practical, goal-oriented change in the present.

Mindfulness-based approaches to increase self-awareness, emotional regulation, and nervous system capacity.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)- skills to strengthen distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Current Availability

At this time, I am not accepting new clients for long-term or individual ongoing therapy. I do, however, accept a limited number of EMDR intensive cases on a case-by-case basis.

If you are seeking ongoing therapy, I warmly invite you to explore the profiles of the other skilled clinicians at Hearth Counseling & Consulting, who offer a range of specialties and availability.

Consultation, Supervision & Mentorship

As an EMDR Consultant-in-Training, I provide individual and group EMDR consultation for clinicians who have completed EMDR basic training and are working toward certification. Consultation focuses on clinical attunement, protocol fidelity, case conceptualization, and building confidence in trauma work.

I also offer consultation and coaching for therapists exploring private practice, growth, or sustainability in their work. To learn more about these services, visit hearthconsultinggroup.com.

A Little About Me

I live in the Raleigh area with my family and pet. Outside of work, you can usually find me traveling, gardening, going for long walks, weight training, trying new restaurants, listening to podcasts, reading, or, when possible, doing absolutely nothing.

I believe healing happens when people feel seen, supported, and respected. If you’re here, I’m glad you found your way.
